San Juan Old Town Overview
Old Town San Juan is the N°1 thing to do in Puerto Rico. It's rated one of the most beautiful Old Towns in the world, which I can confirm. Amazing Oldtown And More There are a lot of colorful houses in very clean streets. This makes an amazing scenery you can stay in for hours. On top of that Old Town has two big forts, a great meadow and all around beautiful seaside. So prepare that you can spend more than one day in this beautiful place. Parking You can park your car on the northstreet Calle Norzagaray Or On The Southside Near The Port. (See The Map) San Sebastián Street Festival At the end of January there will be the San Sebastián Street Festival which is an amazing street party in Old San Juan. |
Old Town San Juan
(Viejo San Juan) An amazing old town. Great architecture and the streets are very clean. There are many different stores all around the Old Town. You can find anything, from luxury watches to flip-flops. Also many small restaurants and bars which will play music in the night. |
Castillo De San Cristobal
A nice fort on the east of Old San Juan. You can go here and have a look inside. But it will cost you a couple of bucks. You can buy tickets there. |
Castillo San Felipe Del Morro
A bigger fort in the back of El Morro Esplanade. You can buy tickets there. A very interesting experience. |
San Juan Cemetery
(Cementerio Santa María Magdalena de Pazzi) A nice looking cemetery on the coastline of El Morro Espalande. You can have a look down on the wall in front of it. I don't think you can (and should) visit it from the inside, as a tourist. |
Paseo De La Princesa
This is a nice walkway on the southern seaside of San Juan. You can see la Fortaleza on top of the wall. |
La Perla
Be aware that there is a strange situation in San Juan. Old San Juan is very clean and safe, but there is La Perla, which is its own small town on the coast. This place should not be visited from tourists. The people in La Perla live in their own community and is considered to be a slum. |
